Tuesday NCAA Basketball Odds: No 8 Connecticut vs Seton Hall
Tuesday, January 03, 2012
Frank Martin
No. 8 Connecticut Huskies looked a bit lost without coach Jim Calhoun last Wednesday, barely scraping by with a 60-57 victory at South Florida. The Huskies seemed much more comfortable with assistant George Blaney on Saturday, ripping St. John’s 83-69.
Calhoun will serve the final game of his three-game suspension for failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance when Connecticut visits Seton Hall Pirates on Tuesday. The Pirates undoubtedly will provide the stiffest test of this early Big East slate for the Huskies. Seton Hall had an eight-game winning streak stopped in a loss at No. 1 Syracuse in its Big East opener but bounced back on Friday by holding a strong West Virginia team to 32 percent shooting in a 67-48 triumph.
The Pirates are led by senior forward Herb Pope, who ranks third in the Big East in scoring (18.6 points) and second in rebounding (10.9).

Connecticut Huskies (12-1): Just in front of Pope at No. 2 on the Big East scoring list is Huskies sophomore Jeremy Lamb (18.9), who carried the team over South Florida with 24 points. Connecticut works best when Lamb’s scoring is balanced with Shabazz Napier in the backcourt and Andre Drummond and Alex Oriakhi up front. That is what worked against the Red Storm, with Napier collecting 17 points and nine assists and Drummond adding 16 points and 11 rebounds. Connecticut shot 60.4 percent in the win.
Seton Hall Pirates (12-2): The Pirates are down to their last run with Pope and fellow senior Jordan Theodore, who leads the Big East in assists (7.0) while adding 15.8 points. In addition to putting up over 72 points, Seton Hall has won with defense, allowing just over 62 points. Sophomore Fuquan Edwin leads the Big East in steals at 3.1 and had four to go along with 19 points on Friday as the Pirates locked down the Mountaineers.
